i really like horses but they do make me nervous, when i was little i was bucked in the face, and i will never forget how painful that was and now i am literally terrified to go behind a horse.

and when i ride i get really tense and scared and im not able to have fun i mean i have been around horses my whole life and  have to say they are amazing animals i want ride freely without fear though. like when i canter i am holding on so tightly and i feel so scared that i will fall off, because when i was very small i fell off a horse and he stepped on my leg and broke it. i just have so many bad experiences.. but at the same time i have some really amazing horses!

so how can i get over my fear of horses and just be able to have fun when i ride?

also i already do spend tons of time with horses but every time im with them i feel a bit nervous.

thanks.

The best thing to do is just be around them. Bring a chair to the pasture and just sit there. You don't have to chase them down and pet them. Just be there. The number one thing to horseback riding is bonding with the horse. Comfort when riding will come in time, but if you can't be on the ground with a horse, you can never be in the saddle. Erase your bad memories with good! Feed your horses treats, tell them secrets, sing to them. It sounds stupid, I know, but when you are 100% open with a horse, you gain this trust. It's weird but amazing.

I would get some lessons in, those will help improve your confidence around horses. Also, spend lots of time around them on the ground before getting into the saddle, get to know the horse, you will be able to trust it more.

One exercise I like doing is having someone put me on the lunge line, while I have no reins and just get a balance and feel of the horse, fix up my posture even instead of thinking about controlling the horse at the same time.

You are getting yourself worked up over this scary event. You need to take riding lessons from a professional riding barn, not from, like, a neighbor with a horse or a family member, but from a certified instructor. They can help you start from the very beginning to learn to ride and get over your fear.

Take lessons on a really dead quiet horse, just ride the thing heaps, don't try to do any super challenging stuff, just the stuff you enjoy until your'll really comfortable with it. Time heals Fear.

exactly just stay around horses and time should heal. i would have one specific horse to bond with so you could become doing everything comfortably with that horse and eventually trust others.
