How do I get over the fear of elevators?

My sister and I have always feared elevators; the fear of being in the small space, possibly getting stuck, etc. We can't go to therapy for it because we are leaving for vacation in 5days. The place we are staying in has 16 floors and a penthouse, and we are on the 16th floor. My sister is worse than me and she is flipping out. She's making up all these scenarios that could happen and we both desperately want to get over it. On Saturdays (the day we arrive and the day we leave) it's really crowded and the elevators are as well. There are only 2 elevators which aren't good. My sister also wants to include THERAPY ISNT AN OPTION.

So we need a quick way to get over the fear. The last time we were on an elevator we had a bad experience; we were at the hospital visiting our sick grandpa and when we left we went down the elevator and it got stuck in the lobby. After less than 10 seconds, the door opened. I am terrified at that experience. And the last time we were there, my sister and mum were on the elevator to take a picture of the sky since there was gonna be a hurricane the next week. The elevator was crowded and it was stuck my sister hates elevators now 1000000x more. I desperately need advice and NO THERAPY. Thanks to whoever helps <3
Update:

PS

The reason I'm afraid is that I'm kinda chrlosterphopic and the elevators are small. Also because I'm afraid I'll be trapped in there and there's like no way out and you'll have to be in there for a while and there are no windows so you have no visual connection to the world outside..

Although elevator accidents are extremely rare, elevator malfunctions can happen from time to time.

It is important to remember that if the elevator should ever stop between floors, do not panic simply use the ALARM or HELP button, the telephone or the intercom to call for assistance. Elevators even have emergency lighting that will come on in the event of a power failure. Try Pushing the "Door Open"  Button.

If you are near the landing the door should open. You can then slowly and carefully step out of the elevator (Be sure to watch your step as the elevator floor may, or may not, be level with the landing). If the door does not open, you are still safe. Do not try to exit the elevator. Wait for trained emergency personnel to arrive. Even if the air temperature feels warm, there is plenty of air circulating in the elevator and its shaftway.

I personally get slightly nervous when I ride in one as well. You just have to remember that even though it may feel like a long time you may only be in an elevator a couple of minutes or less :)

All you can really do is know how to properly handle yourself in an emergency situation.

Hope this helps ^-^

Try not to think of where u are, it's just a little room all be in for a few seconds. listen to music or try keeping yourself calm. if u appear chill in the elevator maybe ur sister will calm down which will help you get through it. in elevators there's usually an emergency button if that helps, also just in case try bringing your phone. or just use the stairs if there are any (i doubt it since ur in a 16 story thing) but if there are just use them. facing ur fears will help u become stronger and get over the next encounter with an elevator. just think of it as not such a big deal.

Stay in an elevator for a day and press the floors for whoever gets in.
