Why am i so bored with life?

it takes a while to realize I'm not happy with my life.  I had blamed it on bad luck. I'm not unlucky, I have all my fingers and toes, and I'm not starving, and i don't live in a war-torn country, - I just don't feel happy with what I do have.  I'm bright, and have a fairly good job (which leaves very little time to enjoy myself), family, home , car, and so on....  --I'm just so bored with my life!!  really really bored and unhappy.

why can't I be happy with that?  what can be done to improve this?

I have an idea!

I get bored too.  I think most people do.  the idea that you will grow up and LOVE your job and LOVE sitting around at home in those 2 hours a day that you aren't at work and LOVE having two whole days off a week to run all your errands and recover from work - if and when you actually get those days - and be satisfied with it all ... well, I don't know where that idea came from but it isn't true.  everything's a trade-off.

anyway, my idea came from a book, Joan Didion's "year of magical thinking".  very depressing non-fiction story, but very worthwhile.  one part struck me - the idea that you should make yourself figure out what you really want to do, before your life has passed you by - take a trip to Bhutan? learn to fly a plane? cook Thai food at home?  - and do it!  don't let the idea that you take the expected vacations and go to the expected dinners with friends, all these things that you find pleasant and keep you busy, stop you from figuring out what you really WANT to do and acting on it!  I am going to try this, as soon as I have time.  ;)

Stagnation in life happens to us all.  When I feel stagnated, I usually pack up my things into a backpack and seek an adventure.  This has led me to many life-changing experiences.  Now, I'm not suggesting you quit your job and go trekking in Nepal or something, but try doing something each day that scares you.  Buy something on impulse, try a new sport, join a club at random, give a homeless guy your shoes.  It's the little things that make life worth living.  After a while, you'll find that you'll crave the next little adventure.

I started doing this about 7 years ago after my father passed away.  Since then, I've completely changed my life for the better.  I went back to school after working in a bank job for 4 years (I hated every day of my job at that point) along the way, I met a ton of interesting people.  I'm now in a career that I'm totally satisfied with, one that makes me smile every day and one that helps me change the lives of others.  Start small and big things will happen.  You never know where you could end up!

I kind of know how you feel!  I moved to the UK in part to see some interesting things to escape so of the “boredom” of my normal life.  Thing is, you cant move away from yourself! Haha!  I get bored here too – but there are way more interesting diversions to keep me from getting too down (last weekend I went and saw the remains of a barrow, this 3500-year-old tomb – it was really moving, and fun!).  I hated people saying “do something” and “get out there”!  But, I would agree! Do you have any strong (ish) interests?  Make a goal to peruse them selfishly – even over your job, for say a period of 6 months or so.  Forget what you “think” is important – if your heart isn’t in it, it will show!  People respond to passion – believe me, you’ll end up meeting some weirdos but possibly make some friends that you may keep forever.

And, at the worst, you’ll see some cool stuff that you enjoy along the way.

Have fun!

nothing can improve this! no matter what we have got we will always want more... the grass is always greener on the other side.  I suffer the same problem I couldn't ask for a better life but a while ago I was getting depressed because I was bored and unhappy.  the only advice I can give is... 'variety is the spice of life. try and do something different every day even if it is just something stupid.  try and think of something that you would never dream of doing... then do it!!!  life is nothing without goals even silly ones.

We all make our own "luck" and shape our lives! You can't sit around and wait for someone or something to happen; you must take the bull by the horns and jump into the water, so to speak! Get used to doing things by yourself; for example, go to the movies alone, or a restaurant; feel good about yourself, and that "aura" will project itself and your life will change for the better in no time.

You don't need drugs to get high you need something in your life to give you a natural high .Find a hobby or get a man who will treat you like a princess and travel .Once you see the brilliance of all creatures and landmarks that make this world great you will not be bored.Good luck.Ps if you are rich bring me along for the ride.

genuinely, you have to find an escape from the mundane real world. whatever form that takes, if we spend too long working, looking after people, doing the day-to-day stuff, we burn out and get tired and bored. but there's no need to stay that way,

you just need a change, something new and exciting.

for some people it's faith, finding God amidst it all,

for some it's drugs, to blank out or change their mindset

for some just social life, meet some new people, get involved

for others, it's about being content with your lot and dealing with it

but don't get depressed, talk to people and find confidantes and confidence! get some chocolate in!

Try something new, something silly, daring, stupid. You need to get yourself a little more of a life, go out with friends, spend time with family, if you have kids before you know it, they'll be grown up.

I think it's because you have everything (or almost), everything you've ever wanted. You may have nothing left to wish for, that's what keeps me going, constantly longing/hoping.

Go on you know you want to.

the problem is in the line "it leaves me very little time to enjoy myself" you need to work fewer hours, if this means changing jobs and buying cheaper or fewer products do it. then use your spare time wisely and do things by yourself until you find something that does not hurt your family and makes you happy. do something different once a month until u find the right thing.

good luck
