What does a swollen lymph node feel like?

Most people can feel things in their neck if they try hard enough. But I'm wondering what a swollen node would feel like, and how big would it have to be if considered swollen?

If it chronic it may feel firm and if acute soft, rubbery, and possibly tender.  They tend to roll under your fingers and if you are not careful you can miss them.  If you can definitely feel a discrete lymph node it is probably enlarged.  If you have one that is 2.5 cm or greater it is a cause for concern,  especially if it hard, tender and fixed, or immobile.

I just had a swollen lymph node in my neck, just under my ear. It was the size of a golf ball and very tender to touch. My doc gave me some antibiotics and it went to the size of a large grape, then a marble, then a pea, and then it was gone. I can still feel that it is just a bit tender in there.

it doesn't have to be big at all, and it is just a bump, on your skin,  some people get it behind the ears or underneath the armpit, you can get it and not even know it"s there.
